In the browser's Dashboard, the Utilization rate panel lets you compare Spot utilization rates daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Each Spot's bar compares its calculated hours in use with its defined target hours. The chart is based on the usage schedule and Spot statuses, not the physical operating hours meter reading.

Check the data needed for the comparison

You need read access to the Spots you want to compare, and utilization rate data must have been generated for them. Each day's calculation uses the schedule in effect on that day: first the Spot's own schedule, then its folder's schedule, and finally the service-wide schedule. Without an applicable schedule, no calculation data is generated for that day. See defining a usage schedule.

Daily processing calculates the previous day according to the service's time zone. The chart therefore does not show today's usage in real time. Normal processing also does not automatically fill in earlier missing days.

Spot status changes saved in Android and iOS affect the same calculation data. In Use on mobile corresponds to Active in the browser. Updating machine hours alone does not record a status change or supply the utilization rate percentage shown in the chart.

Select Spots and a date range

  1. Open Dashboard from the browser menu and find the Utilization rate panel. If the panel is missing, see managing Dashboard panels.
  2. Open the filters using the magnifying glass icon in the panel's title bar.
  3. Select the calculation period: Per day, Per week, Per month or Per year.
  4. Select the Spots to compare in the Select spot field. You can select multiple Spots.
  5. If needed, add folders in the adjacent Select folder field.
  6. Select both a start date and an end date in the Date range field. The chart updates as your selections change; the date search starts only once both dates have been entered.
  7. Hover over a bar to check the Spot's name and value. Compare the same calendar periods and make sure the devices' targets are suitable for comparison.

Selecting folders adds the Spots directly in those folders to the individually selected Spots. It does not restrict the Spot selection to those folders. Spots in subfolders are not included automatically: also select the required subfolders or their Spots. The final data is restricted by read access to Spots.

Without any Spot or folder selections, the chart takes up to 20 Spots found in the data and then applies read permissions. This is not a comparison of all devices, and fewer than 20 Spots may be visible. The same default may apply if the selected folders contain no direct Spots and no Spots have been selected individually. Select the comparison targets yourself for this reason.

Without a date filter, the search covers the eight past days up to yesterday. The initial calculation period is a day. However, a saved default view loaded for use may change these selections.

The cross icon in the filter area, with the tooltip Clear filters, clears the Spots, folders and date range. The calculation period selection is retained. This restores the default search for the cleared fields; it does not reset utilization rate data or delete saved views. Clicking the magnifying glass icon again simply hides the filter area.

What do the calculation periods mean?

  • Per day: one point for each day.
  • Per week: a calendar week from Monday to Sunday. The week's data is generated after the week ends, using the hour totals from the daily data.
  • Per month: a calendar month, with data generated after the month ends.
  • Per year: a calendar year, with data generated after the year ends.

These are not rolling periods of seven days, a month or a year. The date range also filters the dates of the calculation records included. Weekly, monthly and yearly records are dated on the last day of the period. Select complete comparison periods: for example, a search ending halfway through a month does not include the monthly result dated at the end of that month.

The current, incomplete week, month or year may appear as zero because its summary data has not yet been generated. A point for a future period remains empty. Also check weekly results around the turn of the year against the daily data: combining the week number and year may place a point in the wrong year.

How is the percentage calculated?

Chart utilization rate = total hours in use for the period ÷ total target hours for the period × 100. The result is rounded to four decimal places. The percentage is not capped at 100%. The weekly, monthly or yearly percentage is based on hour totals, not a simple average of daily percentages. Different Spots are shown separately; the chart does not calculate a combined utilization rate for them.

In a Daily hours schedule, the target comes from the number of hours set for the weekday. The hours in an applicable exception are subtracted from the target, down to a minimum of zero. If several exceptions apply, the first is used. When the target is positive, hours in use accumulate from all time spent in the Active status during the day, up to 24 hours. The Inactive, Faulty and Deleted statuses do not accumulate active hours in this model. A day with a zero target also has zero hours in use recorded, even if the Spot is active.

In a Time-based schedule, the target is formed from the defined usage periods after exceptions have been applied. Hours in use are calculated by subtracting the periods of absence calculated for the Inactive and Faulty statuses from the scheduled hours. This calculation does not handle the Deleted status in the same way. Consecutive changes between absence statuses, a change from an absence status to Deleted, and absences that cross a usage period boundary may produce an incorrect absence duration. Such results must be checked before reporting.

If a day has no status changes, both calculation methods use the Spot's current status at the time of calculation. If there are changes, the day's starting status comes from the preceding event; if there is no earlier event, Active is assumed. The result for a past day with no events may therefore change during recalculation as the current status changes.

Example: the daily target is 8 hours and 20 active hours accumulate. The chart shows 20 ÷ 8 × 100 = 250%. When a daily hours schedule is assigned directly to the Spot, Usage-% in the Statistics table is capped at 100% for the same data. The percentage saved in the utilization rate history may also be capped. When checking a chart value, compare the hour totals, not just the percentage columns.

The chart supports data from both schedule models, but it has no separate mode for hour totals or Uptime % option. Uptime % is a different metric in the Statistics table. Differences between the table's calculation methods and inherited schedules are explained in the guide to interpreting usability monitoring.

Save the comparison filters

Open the save icon next to the magnifying glass in the panel's title bar. In the window that opens, select Save view, enter a Name and click the Save view button on the new view form. The calculation period, Spots, folders and date range are included. This saves the filters, not the chart's current results. The dates entered remain the same and do not automatically shift over time.

To use a saved comparison, open the same save icon, select a view under Your views or Global views, and click Select saved view. Check the restored filters and the updated chart.

A local administrator can select Global view and Global default view on the creation form. A global view is available to manager users, and a global default view is loaded automatically. Shared filters do not grant any additional read access to Spots. If you accept replacing an existing global default view, the previously saved default view is deleted.

Check the result and missing data

Zero alone does not prove that a Spot was unused. Missing calculation data for a past period appears as zero in the chart. If the total target hours for an existing point are zero, the chart's percentage display cannot be trusted: it has no working handling for a zero target.

  1. Check the Spots, folders, calculation period, start date and end date in the chart's filters.
  2. Open Usability monitoring from the browser menu and go to its Statistics tab. Select the same date range and check the Spot's Hours in use and Desired in use.
  3. Open Full history of usage rates from the Spot's row. Check which days actually have calculation data, and compare their hour totals with the chart value. History hour totals are displayed to two decimal places; the more precise value is shown in the hover tooltip, so a result calculated from rounded figures may differ slightly from the chart.
  4. If needed, check the Spot's status changes on the Event logs tab in the same view, and open Full history events from its row. See checking status history and exporting data.

Correcting past status history may trigger recalculation of existing daily, weekly, monthly and yearly data. It does not fill in missing days, and this processing does not recalculate daily data for a Spot that relies solely on an inherited schedule. Do not assume that a history correction will update all chart results. If the hour totals or status history do not explain the result, investigate the discrepancy with support before using it as a basis for reporting.

Changing, clearing or saving the chart's filters does not change the Spot's status, status history, usage schedule or machine hours meter reading.
