An attribute defines a field's name and type, such as a text field for a serial number. The required attributes are selected for a device card, and their values are entered for each individual device, or Spot.
Changing an attribute means maintaining a shared field definition. To correct only one device's serial number, edit the value in that Spot's details.
Edit an attribute
- Open Attributes in the browser.
- Find the attribute and open it using its name or edit icon.
- Change the Name if needed.
- Check the Field type and any Drop-down menu values.
- Select Save.
The name must be unique. Choose a name that describes the same information on every device card where the attribute is used.
Changing the field type can cause existing values to be lost. Check where the attribute is used and save any information you need before changing it. If you need a field for a different purpose, create a separate attribute.
Drop-down options cannot be added, edited and deleted in the same operation. Save these changes separately and check their effects on existing Spot values.
Delete an unused attribute
- Find the attribute in the Attributes list.
- Select its delete icon.
- Read the confirmation and approve deletion only if the field is no longer needed.
An attribute cannot be deleted if it is used as a Spot field. Protected default attributes cannot be deleted either. If deletion is blocked, investigate where the attribute is used first; do not delete device information just to remove an attribute from the list.
Deleting an attribute and removing a field from one device card are different changes. Check the effects on the device card before changing its field structure.
