Warehouse value development shows how the stored total monetary values of warehouses change over time. You can compare warehouses on a time chart or display the sum of their latest values. The report does not show quantities, selling prices or the net change in warehouse transactions.

Opening the report and prerequisites

In the browser, open Dashboard → Report pages and select a report page. These instructions apply to browser reporting. You need the warehouse feature enabled and permission to view the warehouses you want to examine. User permissions restrict the report data, so different users may get different results with the same settings.

If the report is not on the page, an administrator can select Add new report at the top of the page, find the Warehouse value development report and drag it onto the page. Creating a new page is described in the guide to creating a report page, and arranging reports in the guide to adding a report.

The data includes warehouses that have not been deleted and have at least one stored value within the requested period. The warehouse named Projektilla is excluded. A warehouse does not need to contain products: a stored zero value qualifies it for inclusion. A value stored only before the period is not enough to include the warehouse.

Selecting the period and warehouses

Open Settings in the report panel's title bar, next to the settings icon. In the Time filters section, Tme period for the data determines the period to retrieve, and Time grouping for data determines how the chart points are grouped. The options are day, week, month and year.

A new report defaults to monthly grouping and a Bar chart. The default period runs from the start of the month three months ago to the end of the current month, covering four calendar months. For example, in October the default period is 1 July–31 October. All combined is off by default.

You can use a custom date range or a relative period. In the relative period's Time period specification selection, Based on calendar periods uses the boundaries of calendar weeks, months or years. Starting from today uses a rolling period based on today's date. More detailed time selections are described in the guide to report periods and filters.

In the All filters section, select the warehouses you want in the Warehouse field. If you do not select any warehouses, the report uses all warehouses that meet the conditions above and that you have permission to view. This report does not offer filtering by product or product category.

What does a value on the time chart mean?

Each warehouse's point is the latest stored total value in that time group. For example, values of €100 and then €120 stored in the same month produce a monthly point of €120. The values are neither added together nor averaged over time.

If a group has no stored value, the report uses the latest value stored before it. That value may also come from outside the requested period. However, this continuity does not bring a warehouse into the report if it has no stored values anywhere within the requested period.

If there is no value in the group or before it, the point may appear as zero. A zero therefore does not always prove that the warehouse had no value at that time. For example, the beginning of the chart for a warehouse created later may contain these zeros. Check the warehouse's daily value history to confirm.

Monthly and yearly grouping use whole calendar months and years. If a custom date range ends in the middle of a month, the monthly point may also use a value stored later in that month, after the selected end date. Use daily grouping when you need the value for an exact date. Weekly grouping collects the days in the selected period into ISO weeks.

The current group shows the latest available stored value, not a forecast for the end of the group. No warehouse value is returned for groups entirely in the future. The chart also does not update based on goods movements until a new warehouse value has been calculated and stored.

All combined uses the latest values

Select All combined in the All filters section if you want a single total instead of a time chart. This disables the controls for the time period, time grouping and warehouse selection. Clear the selection to use them again.

The total consists of the latest stored values of the warehouses included. The Warehouse selection is not used. View permissions and the exclusion of deleted warehouses and the Projektilla warehouse still apply.

The previously specified period also still affects which warehouses have the stored value required for inclusion, even though the time selections are greyed out. However, retrieval of the latest values for the included warehouses is not limited to that period. The total may therefore include values from after the period and values calculated on different days.

If warehouse A has a value of €100 in January and its latest value is €150 in February, and warehouse B's latest value is €200, the total for a January search period may be €350 when both warehouses have a stored value in January. In that case, the total is neither the warehouse value at the end of January nor the sum of the values stored in January.

Chart presentation and average

In the settings, open the Report settings section and select Chart type. The available options are Bar, Line, Spline, Area, Spline area, Stacked bar and Stacked area, along with horizontal options for ordinary and stacked bars. Pie charts are not available for this report.

The ordinary presentation shows warehouses as separate series. A stacked presentation places the warehouse values for the same time group on top of one another. Their combined height represents the sum of that group's values; this calculation differs from the sum of the latest values in All combined mode.

Show average value adds the arithmetic mean of the warehouses for each time group: the sum of the warehouse values in that group divided by the number of warehouse series included. Zero values are included in the calculation. For example, €120 and €200 produce an average of €160. This is neither the average of one warehouse's daily values nor the average product price. The result is rounded to two decimal places.

The average presentation also treats missing values as zeros, so it may show zero for future groups. In combined-total mode, there is only one series, so the average equals the total. The average option is not available in horizontal bar presentations.

Data labels displays the numbers in charts that support it. Logarithmic scale changes the scale, not the warehouse values; it is not available in stacked presentations. The grid and title settings available for each chart help make it easier to read.

Where do the stored values come from?

The report reads stored warehouse values without recalculating them. The total value is stored to two decimal places. The report's combined total is calculated from these stored values, not from product-specific quantities or prices shown in the chart.

In FIFO calculations, the remaining batch quantities are valued at the batches' purchase prices. Moving average cost, or MAC, uses the product's company-specific average cost, weighted by quantities. A Current value per product set on a batch row overrides the normal unit price in these calculations. Because of MAC, a purchase in another warehouse may also change the value of the warehouse you are examining. The calculation principles and their differences are described in the guide to warehouse value and product cost.

Values are generated by automatic calculations and warehouse value updates. A zero is also stored for an empty warehouse. A purchase price correction or a backdated purchase may correct previously stored values, so older report points may also change. Opening or filtering the report and saving its settings do not change balances, purchase prices or warehouse value history.

Saving settings and checking the result

Filter changes retrieve the chart data again. An administrator can save changes to an existing report panel using Save Settings in its title bar. When adding a new report, use the Save the page button at the top of the report page. It saves the page's reports, their filters and their order. A change in the chart alone does not mean that the settings have been saved.

First check the requested period, time grouping, Warehouse selection and All combined mode. On the time chart, compare a point with the group's last stored value or, if the group has no stored value, the value stored before it. For the combined total, check each included warehouse's latest value and when it was calculated.

In the browser's Warehouses view, open the warehouse in question and select Warehouse value → History. The warehouse value history guide helps you check daily values, changes to them and any price corrections. The maximum six-month period for a single history search is a restriction of the history view, not a general time limit for this chart.

If a warehouse is missing from the report, check view permissions, whether it has been deleted and whether it has at least one stored value in the requested period. If the chart shows zero, check whether it is a stored zero value, a time before the first stored value or a missing value in the average presentation. If a figure differs from what you expected, also check when it was calculated, the use of the whole calendar group and corrections to earlier values.
