Work Chat brings conversations about tasks, service requests and purchase orders together in one view. You can read messages, reply to them and add attachments in the browser and in the Android and iOS apps. Conversations are always linked to an existing task, service request or purchase order.
The view also includes comments previously added to the item. Your permissions determine which conversations you can see and which actions are available.
Finding a conversation
- Open Work Chat.
- Select the conversation you want from the list. The number of unread messages is shown next to the conversation.
- If needed, filter the list by type, status or priority. On mobile, use the filter icon to open Work chat list settings.
- View older messages using Load more messages in the browser or Load earlier messages on mobile.
The browser list also shows details such as the number of messages, who sent the latest message and when. If you cannot find a conversation, first check the active filters.
Starting a new conversation
- In the browser, select New Work Chat. On mobile, use the add button to open the new conversation view. The view is called New chat on Android and New Chat on iOS.
- Select the tab for tasks, service requests or purchase orders. The service requests tab is called Service request on Android and Service Request in the browser.
- Find and select the item you want to discuss.
- Write the first message. In the browser, select Start Chat; on mobile, save the comment you have written.
The selection view for a new conversation shows items that do not yet have comments. If an item already has a conversation, open it from the Work Chat list.
Sending a message and an attachment
Open a conversation, write a message in the message field and send it. In the browser, you can send the message by pressing Enter. On mobile, use the send button.
Add an attachment before sending the message. In the browser, use the Attach file icon. On mobile, the attachment button lets you select a file or image, or use the camera. On Android and iOS, you can select up to three attachments at a time. Include message text as well: you cannot send an attachment on its own.
To open an attachment you have received, select it in the message.
Editing and deleting a message
In the browser, use the message's edit or delete icon. On mobile, open the message's action menu. Edit the text and send the corrected message, or select the delete option and confirm.
On mobile, you can only edit and delete your own messages. In the browser, your permissions may also allow you to edit and delete other people's messages. These actions are only available if you have permission to use them.
Deleting a message also deletes its attached files.
Managing unread messages
Opening a conversation and viewing its messages updates its read status. You can also mark all conversations available to you as read at once: select Mark all as read in the browser, or use the mark as read button in the conversation list on mobile, and confirm your choice. This action applies to your own unread messages.
