A warehouse identifies where products are stored. Warehouse slots let you distinguish between shelves, for example. You need a role that grants permission to manage warehouses.

  1. Open warehouse management in the browser and select Create new warehouse.
  2. Enter a name and address for the warehouse, along with any other required address details.
  3. Check Warehouse in use, Inventory usage principle and Inventory valuation principle. The valuation principle comes from the shared service setting and cannot be changed on the warehouse form.
  4. In the Warehouse slots field, select a warehouse slot collection or select Create new warehouse slot collection. Give the new collection a name and add at least one slot. Add more slots using the Add new warehouse slot button and save the collection.
  5. Save the warehouse by clicking Create new warehouse. When creating the first warehouse, you will be asked to confirm the valuation principle used in the environment. Check the principle and confirm creation. If you want to change the principle, cancel the confirmation and change the service setting before creating the warehouse.

The service setting is called Warehouse value calculation method. The options are FIFO and MAC (moving average cost). On the warehouse form, MAC is shown as Moving average cost. Changing the shared setting changes the calculation method for all warehouses. The change is blocked if the warehouses have a product history, even if their current stock balances are zero. Check your selection before recording the first warehouse events.

You can also create a warehouse slot collection in warehouse slot management: select Create new warehouse slot collection, give the collection a name, select a warehouse and add the slots. Save.

Name the slots so that someone looking for products can find the correct shelf. When editing a collection, also check the warehouses selected for it: the same slot collection can be linked to several warehouses.

Creating a warehouse does not add products to its stock balances. Record products entering the warehouse separately as a receipt or purchase. The inventory usage principle determines which purchase batch a subsequent deduction is taken from. Check this before recording the first events.
