A Spotilla notification arriving on your phone tells you about an event and helps you find the related content. A push notification, a general app notification, a Spot message and a work comment are different things. Opening a notification does not always open an individual message or automatically mark the content as read.
Prerequisites
Use Spotilla with a user account for the correct organization. Viewing and handling content requires permissions: receiving a notification does not grant any new permissions. Viewing purchase order comments on mobile requires read permission for at least one task or service request linked to the order. Adding a comment requires the corresponding edit permission.
Whether you receive notifications depends on the notification topics you subscribe to, the event's recipient restrictions, the app's time settings and the notification permission granted to Spotilla on your phone. See mobile notification settings. Android displays an incoming notification only when there is an active session in the app and the notification concerns the signed-in user's organization.
Simply viewing or participating in a conversation does not guarantee a push notification. For example, a service request comment notification is directed to the mobile user associated with the requester's email address and to the responsible mobile role. An ordinary task comment does not trigger a corresponding general Work Chat push notification. Purchase order notifications are sent through linked work items; the email sent to the purchase order's creator about a comment or an added file is a separate notification.
Open the notification and check the item that opens
Tap the content of the Spotilla notification on your phone. The view that opens depends on the notification event:
| Notification | Android | iOS |
|---|---|---|
| Task notification | Task details. | Task details. |
| New service request or notification of a change in responsibility | Service request details. | Service request details. |
| Service request comment | The request's Comments view. | Request details. Open the comment list using the Comments button in the details view. |
| Spot message | The message list, where you can find the correct message. | The message list, where you can find the correct message. |
| General notification | The notification content within the notification list. | The notification content within the notification list. |
| Purchase order comment | The purchase order's Comments view. | The purchase order's Comments view. |
| Linking a purchase order to a work item or adding a file | Details of the linked task or service request. | Details of the linked task or service request. |
The option to add a new comment is hidden on both platforms in the view opened from a purchase order comment notification. To reply, open the purchase order conversation through Work Chat as described below. The comment belongs to the purchase order, even though the notification was delivered through a task or service request. See also linking a purchase order to a work item.
Check the title or number, the related Spot, the latest comment or file and the current status of the item that opens. The notification describes the event at the time it was sent; the item's details may have changed since then.
In these app versions, a service request completion notification does not provide a direct route to the request's details. Check the request through Service requests in the app's Home view.
Check the read status separately
Opening a general notification directly from a push notification does not save a read receipt on Android or iOS. Mark the notification as read by opening it from the app's own list:
- Select Home at the bottom of the app. If Latest events feed is expanded, collapse the list using its heading or arrow button so that the notification and conversation buttons are visible.
- Open Notifications. On Android, the button has a bell icon.
- On Android, select the notification from the list. On iOS, tap the notification's NOT OPENED or OPENED button; tapping only the title row does not open the notification.
- Read the content, close it and reopen the notification list. On iOS, the OPENED status indicates that the read receipt was saved successfully.
The read receipt is saved to your own user account. If the connection or saving fails, simply seeing the content or an immediate local status change on Android does not confirm that it was saved. Other ways of handling notifications are described in reading notifications on mobile.
The comments view opened from a purchase order comment notification also does not automatically mark the conversation as read on either platform. In Android's service request comments view, marking the conversation as read requires permission to handle the request or permission to add comments and files. You cannot determine the conversation's read status simply from the details view opening.
Open the conversation using the Work Chat message icon in the Home view and select the correct task, service request or purchase order. In both apps, Work Chat automatically marks a conversation as read only if you have permission to send messages to that conversation. Keep the conversation open for a moment and check its unread message count after returning to the list. Replying and other read actions are described in using Work Chat.
If a notification is missing or does not open the content
Check the content directly in the app: Tasks, Service requests and Messages in the Home view open the corresponding lists. You can find general notifications and work conversations using the buttons described above. Check that you are in the correct organization and check any list filters. If the content is unavailable, ask an administrator to check that the item exists, that the notification is targeted correctly and that you have the required permissions.
A missing banner does not prove that an event or message is missing. Android prevents repeated display of the same notification identifier. When the app is in the foreground, iOS prevents repeated notifications of the same type that relate to the same item and the same purchase order event. The number of notifications therefore does not match the total number of events or unread comments for the item.
Dismissing a notification from your phone or the notification count on the app icon resetting does not delete the item or prove that its read status has changed. Opening a notification does not mark a task or service request as completed. Perform the required actions in the actual item and check its current status to confirm that they succeeded.
